The city of Portland will celebrate the impact federal Department of Housing and Urban Development programs have had on the city with public site tours, open houses and community forums around the city.
Mayor Ethan Strimling is scheduled to hold a news conference at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Rotunda at City Hall to announce Community Development Week in Portland this week. He'll be joined by city officials and local organizations that have received Community Development Block Grants and HOME Investment Partnership Program money. The organization representatives will talk about the impact the funds have on the community "and share stories of the important work they do," according to a news release from the city.
Among the speakers will be Lori Moses of Catherine Morrill Day Nursery and Cheryl Sessions of the Portland Housing Authority.
This week's site tours will provide a look into the partner organization’s operations, highlighting the positive impact of the CDBG and HOME programs, the release said.
The city is also asking residents to be part of the five-year planning process by taking the city's Goals and Priorities Survey.
The week began with a slide show presentation this morning at City Hall. At 5:30 p.m., the City Council will hold a public hearing on 2019-20 grant allocation requests.
While all tours are free an open to the public, they require an RSVP, unless otherwise noted. To RSVP, visit www.portlandmaine.gov/cdbg or email amethot@portlandmaine.gov.
The rest of the week's schedule includes:
