Portland fintech chooses Boston firm for PR help

Foreside Financial Group LLC, a growing fintech company headquartered in Portland, has hired a Boston firm to provide public relations services.

BackBay Communications will serve as Foreside’s agency of record, handling media relations, content development, conference participation and awards submissions, the firm said in a news release Thursday. BackBay did not provide additional detail or anticipated billings, and calls to the agency were not immediately returned.

Foreside provides compliance technology and services for companies in the global asset, wealth management and alternative investment sectors. Foreside is responsible for distributing over $1 trillion in assets, and has said it’s one of the largest third-party fund distributors in the world.

The company operates branches throughout the U.S., including in Boston and New York, and announced three acquisitions in 2019. The most recent, in November, was the purchase of a fund distribution business from U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB), the country's seventh-largest bank holding company.

BackBay specializes in communications for the financial services industry, and has worked with clients in asset management, fintech, impact investing and private equity. Founded in 2005, the firm has a staff of 20 in Boston and London.

“We are proud of Foreside’s selection of BackBay and look forward to working with the company to tell their story and share their insights,” BackBay founder and CEO Bill Haynes said in the release.

Foreside’s selection of the firm comes two weeks after another Maine financial services company, Bangor Savings Bank, also turned to Boston for PR help. The bank — Maine’s largest, with assets of $4.7 billion — moved its account from Lewiston-based Rinck Advertising to the Castle Group. Rinck, meanwhile, said earlier this week it won the PR account for Dunkin brands for Maine and Vermont.
