Portland lawyer suspended from practice for 3 years

The Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar has suspended Portland lawyer David Hunt’s right to practice law for three years, a penalty based on the board's finding that Hunt suffered impairment related to his abuse of alcohol and also violated various provisions of the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the suspension is retroactive to Aug. 18, 2012. It also reported that the Maine Supreme Judicial Court suspended half of the suspension period so long as Hunt does not violate any bar rules during that time period.

In a July 18 order, Associate Justice Jon D. Levy of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court set a number of conditions for Hunt’s reinstatement, including random substance abuse testing and active participation in Alcoholics Anonymous.
