Portland lawyers face disciplinary hearing

Three lawyers from the Portland firm Drummond and Drummond were scheduled to appear today before the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar for a disciplinary hearing regarding allegations that they willfully misled courts by allowing a practice known as “robo-signing” during foreclosure proceedings.

The Portland Press Herald reported the three attorneys — Philip Mancini of Portland, Paul Peck of Portland and Alexander Saksen of Pittsburgh, Pa. — have denied the allegations related to their representation of GMAC Mortgage in a 2011 case.

The case dealt with GMAC’s foreclosure on the home of Nicolle Bradbury of Denmark, a case led by Pine Tree Legal Assistance attorney Thomas Cox that brought national attention to robo-signing, or quickly processing sworn court documents for use in foreclosure proceedings.

The paper reported Cox was first on a list of witnesses the Board of Overseers of the Bar intends to call in its disciplinary hearing, which was expected to continue into Tuesday with witness testimony.
