A 24-room historic mansion at 181 Western Promenade in Portland was scooped up for $2.825 million by a Texas buyer looking to relocate to Maine.
The price set a record for a single-family home in Portland, said Thomas Gadbois, who brokered the deal with David Jones, both of F.O. Bailey Real Estate.
Called the West Mansion and located near Maine Medical Center, the 12,174-square-foot home was built in 1912.
The house features 10 wood-burning fireplaces, six 30-foot white granite exterior columns, oak staircase, oak floors, stained glass light fixtures rumored to be Tiffany, mahogany wainscoting, silk-lined walls and beamed ceilings.
Typically, Gadbois said, a property of its type could take a year to sell. But this was a quick deal; listed in May, it was under contract in two weeks. The transaction was finalized July 13. The buyer is from Texas and plans to relocate to Maine.
“It’s another example of out-of-state money coming into Maine,” he said.
