Portland seeks input on minimum wage proposal
The city of Portland is seeking input on Mayor Michael Brennan’s proposal to increase the city’s minimum wage to $9.50 next year in a forum scheduled for Wednesday.
The Portland Press Herald reported that Brennan’s proposal will be presented at the meeting, which will start at 5 p.m. at the Portland Public Library. The proposal could be formally presented to the City Council next month for consideration.
The current proposal calls for increasing Portland’s minimum wage from $7.50 an hour to $9.50 as early as Jan. 1, 2015, followed by increases to $10.10 in 2016, and to $10.68 in 2017, with subsequent increases made based on annual cost-of-living figures.
