Program brings sustainability, technology closer

Maine Businesses for Sustainability and E2Tech, both of Portland, have created a new joint membership program.

The organizations' new partnership means that members of the Sustainable Business Collaborative, a previous Maine Businesses for Sustainability program, can now participate in both organizations, helping grow Maine's clean-tech economy, a press release states. The clean-tech economy produces products from wind turbines and solar photovoltaics to services such as mass transit and regulation, supporting low-carbon and environmentally oriented industries.

The Sustainable Business Collaborative includes businesses such as MEMIC, Reed & Reed, First Wind, Verrill Dana, Central Maine Power Co., FairPoint Communications and Inn by the Sea and aims to create sustainable jobs, the release states. Annual dues are $3,000, which includes membership benefits now to both Maine Businesses for Sustainability and E2Tech.

With the new partnership, collaborative members will have the opportunity to participate in such E2Tech efforts as promoting Maine's ocean and wind energy supply and putting the former Brunswick Naval Air Station on the map as an incubator for renewable-energy technology businesses, the press release says.

"We are very excited about this partnership," said Harry Brown, executive director of E2Tech. "Both organizations have the goal of growing and supporting Maine's clean economy. Joining forces increases knowledge sharing and widens members' exposure to exciting new ideas and projects in Maine's clean tech sector."
