Rehab proposed for historic Bucksport hall
A $1 million renovation has been proposed for Bucksport’s 177-year-old Wilson Hall, a former seminary, into a concierge medicine and live-in rehabilitation facility for about two dozen elderly people.
The Bangor Daily News reported the town council came within one vote of razing the structure, before voting unanimously to give Rep. Richard Campbell, an Orrington-based Republican and a contractor, five months plus an option for two three-month extensions to plot the revitalization.
The hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places but has been derelict for more than 20 years.
Coastal Enterprises Inc. is working with Campbell and a group he assembled to develop a business model, secure financing and redesign the hall, which the town acquired through tax foreclosure in late 2011.
“I think it would be a loss to the community if it were just to get torn down,” Town Manager Sue Lessard told the BDN. “With a repurposed use that would allow it to have a new future, it would be an asset to the town.”
