Renovation of Millinocket health clinic helped by guaranteed federal loan

The $2.5 million expansion of Katahdin Valley Health Center's community health clinic in Millinocket has received a $2.2 million guaranteed loan through the Rural Development's Community Facilities Guaranteed Loans program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The loan will be provided through a partnership with Bangor Savings Bank.
The Katahdin Valley Health Center received approval for a $2.2 million guaranteed loan through the Rural Development’s Community Facilities Guaranteed Loans program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The loan, which was provided through a partnership with Bangor Savings Bank, will be used to fund a renovation and expansion project at the center’s Millinocket community health clinic that will enable it to offer new services and create new jobs.
“Access to high-quality, affordable health care is essential to the well-being of Mainers across the state. That’s why investing in community health centers is so important,” U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said in a joint statement announcing the loan. “This crucial financial support will improve the care Katahdin Valley Health Center provides to Mainers by creating additional space for new health services.”
The one-story, 4,200 square-foot addition will provide space for optometry, behavioral counseling, dental services, labs, exams rooms and pharmacy. The project is also expected to create six medical profession jobs.
Total cost of the expansion project is $2.5 million. In addition to the guaranteed loan from USDA, $303,035 will be provided by Katahdin Valley Health Center.
