Kaile Warren, a former Windham town councilor and owner of Rent-A-Husband, is being accused of investment fraud.
A Windham couple has filed a lawsuit in Cumberland County Superior Court against Warren for failing to pay back $15,000 in loans for Rent-A-Husband, according to Current Publishing. Christopher and Colleen Olsen also turned over to Warren two properties valued at $200,000 in March 2008 to be used as collateral for a $45,000 loan Warren sought from Coastal Realty Capital. The Olsens allege Warren promised a 20% return within two years. Warren on Aug. 20 filed a motion to dismiss the case.
Another investor, real estate broker Peter Forbes of ERA Today in North Windham, told the news service he loaned $10,000 to Warren last year and was promised full repayment plus 20% by May of this year, but so far has received nothing. The handyman business has earned national attention, but has struggled financially over the past year, forcing Warren to seek out loans from acquaintances, according to the news source. A USA Today reporter told the news service she was investigating Rent-A-Husband and expected to publish a story by next week.
