Report: Hancock Maine's healthiest county

A new report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that Mainers living in Hancock County are the healthiest in the state, while Oxford County has the least-healthy residents.

The County Health Rankings report from the foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute studied a number of factors, including deaths before age 75, baby birth weight and individuals' reported mental and physical health, according to the Bangor Daily News. The report ranked Hancock County No. 1 and Franklin County No. 2 for health outcomes, or the overall health of the counties, for having low premature death rates and low rates of self-reported poor health. Oxford and Washington counties ranked the worst.

The report also studied health factors, such as rates of smoking, obesity and drinking, air quality and poverty, indicative of overall health and found Cumberland County to be the best in this category and Somerset County the worst.
