Report: ME, NB need cultural exchange

A report from a cross-border task force says Maine and New Brunswick should do more to boost their creative economies through arts and cultural exchanges.

The report, released Dec. 1, stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in July by Gov. John Baldacci and New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham to strengthen cultural exchange and trade between Maine and the Canadian province, according to the Bangor Daily News. On Tuesday, members of the Maine Arts Commission presented to Baldacci the report's recommendations, which include making it easier for artists to work and sell their products internationally and establishing an annual summit between cultural groups to share information.

Maximizing cross-border cultural opportunities would enhance economic development through cultural tourism, according to the report. The task force plans to release a second report in April 2011.
