Reuse plans for BNAS approved

The group charged with making a re-use plan for the Brunswick Naval Air Station last night approved a final plan for the site.

Almost two weeks before its deadline, members of the Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority approved the master plan for the 3,200-acre base, which is set to close in 2011, the Portland Press Herald reported. The master plan calls for a hotel, college campus, housing and office space, among other features, the paper said.

The BLRA now will submit the plan to the U.S. Navy for approval. It also will pass the plan to its successor, the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, which will market the site to future tenants.
