S. Portland wants oil pipeline lawsuit dismissed

The city of South Portland is seeking the dismissal of a federal lawsuit filed by Portland Pipe Line Corp. over a controversial ban on loading crude oil onto marine vessels.

The Forecaster reported that the city’s response, filed on Tuesday, said the lawsuit should be dropped because Portland Pipe Line doesn’t have any actual plans to reverse the flow of its pipeline and deliver tar sands crude oil to South Portland.

Portland Pipe Line filed its lawsuit in February, arguing that the city’s crude oil loading ban interferes with interstate trade, diminishes the value of its pipeline, discriminates against Canadian interests and infringes on federal regulatory processes.
