Saco looking to leverage economic development

Saco has been seeing rejuvenated activity in recent years, with the arrival of new investment like the Saco River Dyehouse, as well as new public amenities such as the RiverWalk along the Saco River.

Now the city has agreed to designate its downtown a municipal development district, pending state approval, which is expected to shelter increased tax revenues to be used for economic development projects, the Journal Tribune reported.

The money is expected to go to projects that include local economic development organizations such as Saco Main Street and the Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce + Industry, as well as street and sidewalk improvements.
