The saga continues of a restaurant rail car project in Old Town

The Milford restaurateur who hopes to move a railroad car that was once part of the now-closed Captain Nick’s eatery onto Edging & Drift Island has already passed one of the first hurdles.

Old Town city councilors voted 5-2 on Monday to sell the island, which is 500 feet long and 200 feet wide at widest point, to Michael Thorton for $10,000, according to The Bangor Daily News.

The sale will not be finalized until Thorton obtains state and federal approval for his plans.

The two city councilors opposing the sale cited both safety concerns and a lack of input from the state’s Department of Environmental Protection or U.S. Army Corps as the reasons for their down vote.

“This is just going to give him the OK to move forward,” council President David Mahan said. “At least we’re not stopping him from researching [the plans].”
