Sanford mill to be demolished
Following the June 23 fire that destroyed the rear tower of the former Stenton Trust mill in Sanford, town councilors have called for demolishing the entire building.
The Journal Tribune reported that the state Department of Environmental Protection has recommended that the federal Environmental Protection Agency help with assessment and potential remediation of hazards that potentially remain following the fire. In 2009, the EPA removed a number of hazardous materials from the mill. The mill has been vacant about a decade. Councilors discussed taking possession of the mill from owner Gateway Properties LLC, a company owned by Jonathan Morse of Reno, Nev.
Three boys were charged with arson in the fire.
