The Searsport Planning Board will continue to review plans for a 22-million-gallon liquid propane storage tank after the applicant, DCP Midstream, withdrew the project from consideration.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the board is expected to pen a final decision denying the project by mid-April, based upon the recommendation of the town's legal counsel who said the company could make small changes to the plans and resubmit them if the review process was left unfinished.
Bruce Probert, chairman of the planning board, expressed confidence that further review will ultimately reject the company's withdrawn proposal and "put [the issue] to bed legally."
DCP spokeswoman Roz Elliott told the paper Thursday that she was perplexed by the planning board's decision to continue deliberations and that the company has no plans to continue pursuing a Searsport project, calling the local review process "very difficult."
Local officials estimate the prolonged and heated public hearings cost the town nearly $20,000 to pay for police and legal fees over the last few months.
