Senate unanimously OKs work force bill

A bill to aid work force training, which includes about $5 million in state investments over two years, cleared the Maine Senate in a unanimous voice vote Wednesday.

The Sun Journal reported that the bipartisan LD 90 will likely move to the House for a vote today. The bill, which also has support of unions and business groups, is expected to find support there as well.

It includes allocations to the state's Department of Education, the Maine Community College System, the Department of Labor and the University of Maine System to support job-training programs.

John Butera, Gov. Paul LePage's chief economic adviser, told the paper that the governor was supportive of the bipartisan nature of the bill, but has not issued a formal statement indicating his support or opposition.
