SMCC picks new president

Southern Maine Community College has named Ronald Cantor of Mohawk Valley Community College in New York its new president.

Cantor has three decades of higher education administration experience and is currently the associate vice president and dean at the Utica, N.Y., college, according to The Associated Press. Maine Community College System President John Fitzsimmons announced his appointment yesterday following unanimous support from the system's trustees.

Cantor replaces James Ortiz, who will retire in July. Ortiz led SMCC in South Portland for 10 years.
