SMCC receives $100,000 training grant
Maine Quality Center, a program that encourages businesses to locate or expand in Maine by providing work force training at no cost, has awarded a $100,000 grant to Southern Maine Community College to train Mölnlycke Health Care employees once they've been hired.
The grant will help SMCC train 127 Mölnlycke employees, according to The Forecaster. The medical device manufacturing company is building a new facility at Brunswick Landing, a high-tech business campus at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station, that will include the Maine Advanced Technology and Engineering Center and the Brunswick Renewable Energy Center.
Jim McGowan, director of Maine Quality Center, said the Mölnlycke employees will take job-specific courses at SMCC's new midcoast campus at Brunswick Landing and possibly at the Mölnlycke Health Care facility.
Mölnlycke Health Care, based in Sweden, is a manufacturer of single-use surgical and wound care products. Earlier this year it was named Foreign Direct Investor of the Year by the Maine International Trade Center for its acquisition of Rynel in Wiscasset in 2010 and its ongoing construction of a new facility at Brunswick Landing.
