Cold temperatures and heavy snowfall have dogged commuters and left thousands without power. But the Bangor Daily News reported the same harsh weather has given some Maine ski resorts their best December in years.
Greg Sweetser, executive director of the Ski Maine Association, told the paper that this stands to be a “a very, very good year” for Maine ski resorts both because of an improving economy and because of the heavy snowfall and sustained cold.
Sweetser said a common indicator for a good season is how many ski areas are open over the Christmas holiday. This year, all were.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the storm that hit the state Thursday night will likely continue through the afternoon, keeping roads covered and disrupting morning commutes. WGME reported there have been cancellations of flights at the Portland International Jetport as a result of the snowfall. The Associated Press also reported that state offices are set to close early as a result of the storm.
