South Portland city officials are on the lookout for possible ways to reuse the 6-acre O’Neil Street public works campus, after the offices and services there are moved to a new 9-acre campus next year.
The Forecaster reported that the parcel, which was assessed this year at $1.4 million, and its six buildings will need to be repurposed after the services offered there are moved to a new $15.7 million campus at 929 Highland Ave. The final phase of construction on the new campus is expected to wrap up in June.
South Portland’s City Council proposed forming a committee next month to present three to four recommendations to the council, with input from nearby stakeholders and community members as to what could be done for the property, The Forecaster reported.
“The earlier we get stakeholders in there,” the better, Councilor Claude Morgan told The Forecaster. “Developers, tell us what you can do, tell us what you see when you’re (there).”
“Neighbors, tell us what you see when you’re here, looking at this area,” he added, according to The Forecaster.
