Norris Inc., a South Portland-based security systems integrator with branches in Bangor, New Hampshire and Vermont, has been acquired by a Massachusetts company.
Minuteman Security Technologies Inc., headquartered in Andover, Mass., purchased Norris for an undisclosed price, according to a news release this week.
Minuteman already operates five branches, including one in Portland.
With the acquisition of Norris, Minuteman said it is now the region's largest independent full-service provider of integrated security, communication and life-safety systems.
“Norris deepens our presence in a core northeastern market, expands our offering into fire and life safety, and adds Vigilance, a proprietary mass notification system, to our cutting-edge technologies,” said Minuteman CEO Joseph Lynch in the release.
Founded by Harty Norris in 1979 as a security systems dealer, Norris grew to offer engineered security and fire alarm systems. Later, Norris expanded to offer a variety of security systems, emergency call systems and communication technologies, as well as specialized products, installation and other services.
Like Minuteman, Norris serves enterprise-scale clients nationwide across diverse markets, including education, energy, health care, mass transit, property management and public safety. In Maine, Norris clients have included L.L. Bean Inc. and the University of Southern Maine.
"I am thrilled about this next chapter for Norris," said Harty Norris, board chairman, who has retired from the company along with his brother and current board adviser, Brad Norris.
"Brad and I are incredibly proud of how we have grown Norris over the last 40 years, with a focus on doing important work that contributes to public safety and building a great work environment for our employees.”
