The nonprofit Community Concepts Finance Corp. in Lewiston today installed a veteran state legislator as its new president.
Nate Libby, D-Lewiston, has been working with Community Concepts as a consultant on two wellness shelter projects since April, according to a news release.
“Community Concepts Finance Corp. believes all individuals, families and communities can be financially secure and the programs and services we offer directly address what I view as our state’s biggest challenge: growing our economy and household incomes,” Libby said in the release. “I look forward to leading an outstanding team in support of our mission.”
Libby, a Lewiston resident, has represented Maine’s second-largest city for eight years in the Maine Legislature — two years in the House of Representatives and six years in the Maine Senate.
He is serving his final two-year term in Maine’s part-time citizen Legislature.
He has worked for eight years as a consultant to nonprofit and local government clients and has a MBA from the University of Southern Maine. He also has a bachelor’s degree in history and economics from Bates College.
“Nate has been our project manager for both of the wellness shelters, helping us get the initial shelter open in just two weeks,” said Shawn Yardley, CEO of Community Concepts. “His commitment to our community aligns with our overall mission to strengthen individuals, families and communities in western Maine by providing diverse programs, engaging in strategic partnerships and through advocacy to address the barriers to promote economic opportunities for all.”
CCFC, a nonprofit, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Community Concepts and provides home and business loans along with financial coaching and homebuyer education to help people and businesses realize their financial goals.
Community Concepts Inc., in partnership with MaineHousing, provides temporary winter shelters to serve unsheltered individuals in the Lewiston-Auburn area and surrounding communities.
Libby is assuming the role previously held by Glen Holmes, CCFC’s president since 2017.
Holmes has taken a position with the city of Auburn as director of business and community development.
Community Concepts Finance Corp. is a Community Development Financial Institution, a private sector financial institution that may receive federal funding from the U.S. Treasury.
CDFIs are mission-driven, community-based financial institutions that often make investments — through loans, venture capital, tax credits and other financial services — that make a positive social and economic impact.
