State’s updated unemployment-tax system set to launch in November

The Maine Department of Labor plans to begin the second phase of its modernized replacement system for Maine’s unemployment insurance program — which is called ReEmployME — with the launch of registration for new Maine employers in August. Phase 2 of the new program focuses on employer services tax functionality.

Full implementation of the new system is expected in early November.

The first phase, which was implemented by the Labor Department’s Bureau of Unemployment Compensation last December, focused on the benefits claim filing and management aspects of the state’s unemployment insurance program.

Since the late 1990’s, Maine Revenue Services has performed some of the unemployment insurance tax business functions for the Department of Labor. The new system will allow the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Unemployment Compensation to resume most of those business functions and provide an improved and modernized employer online experience.

“One of our primary goals for ReEmployME Phase 2 is to provide Maine businesses with relevant information that may impact their business with Department of Labor’s Bureau of Unemployment Compensation,” the department stated in a news release.
