Strength in numbers | A look inside Maine's cluster economy

The newest report on Maine’s technology clusters identifies eight sustainable clusters, three emerging clusters and five potential clusters.

Sustainable clusters are defined as economic areas that have survived and adapted because of the enduring base of knowledge and skills possessed by the people and organizations working with them. Emerging clusters are defined as areas that contain a foundation of knowledge and skills that generate measurable commercial activity in Maine. Potential clusters show a distinct set of knowledge and skills, but associated commercial activity is weak and knowledge is not widely shared among the individual organizations.
