Student hopes to launch drawbridge alert system

A University of New England College of Pharmacy student hopes to launch a new $7.99-a-year text message service at CascoBayBridge.com that will alert subscribers five minutes before the drawbridge will be raised during morning and afternoon rush hours — between 7 and 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.

South Portland resident Justin Levesque told the Bangor Daily News that he's hopeful there will be a market for his automatic text alert system given that 32,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day. His method of triggering those automatic alerts, he told the paper, remains a trade secret.

"[This] has potential to alleviate a common commuting headache between two of Maine's largest cities, and commuting students to SMCC," he told the BDN.
