Summer lodging, restaurant sales see uptick

According to numbers from Maine's tourism industry, the state saw a slight uptick in traveler volume through the York toll plaza and a bump in lodging and restaurant sales.

The Portland Press Herald reported that toll plaza traffic in York increased 1.3% over last year for May and July, while lodging sales were up 7% in May and and 14.7% in June, according to statistics from the State Planning Office.

Restaurant sales also saw a boost with a 7.1% increase in May and a 7.6% increase in June.

Visitors to Acadia National Park also saw a strong boost in May, jumping 17.6% over last year. This May was the fourth warmest on record, according to the National Weather Service, with an average temperature of 56.6 degrees.

Visitors to the park in June were up 3.9% and numbers were down 3.6% for visitors in July.
