Sun Journal parent snatches up more papers

The Sun Media Group, the parent company of the Sun Journal in Lewiston, has expanded its stable of Maine newspapers by acquiring the weekly Kirkland Newspapers, the Sun Journal reports.

Bill Kirkland, a longtime newspaperman who lives in North Carolina, sold the Franklin Journal, the Rangeley Highlander, the Penobscot Times and the Livermore Falls Advertiser on Monday to Sun Media Group for an undisclosed price, the paper reports. The Sun Journal also noted that staff and the papers' publication schedules will remain the same.

Sun Media told the paper that the new acquisition will boost its total reach to more than 260,000 readers.
