Supplemental budget passed

State legislators yesterday passed a supplemental budget by wide margins in both the House and Senate.

The $166 million budget, which is designed to fill a gap in projected revenue and spending through the end of this fiscal year, was passed by a vote of 120-22 in the House and 31-3 in the Senate, according to the Associated Press. It includes withdrawing $56 million from the Rainy Day Fund, cutting $11.8 million from higher education and $37.7 million from the Dept. of Health and Human Services.

The Legislature will now consider the 2009-2011, $6.1 billion biennium budget, public hearings for which will begin Feb. 9, the AP reported.
