Survey: ME has lowest car insurance prices
An annual survey by an instant insurance quote provider has found Maine again has the lowest average car insurance rates in the country.
The survey, by Insure.com, reviews average quotes for a 40-year-old single male who commutes 12 miles to work each day across 750 car models and six large insurers.
The rates compiled in December 2012 showed Maine's average annual insurance rate for that profile at $934, nearly $100 cheaper than the next-lowest Iowa.
Louisiana was found to have the highest average annual premium, at $2,699.
In a press release on the data, Maine Insurance Agents Association President Sheila Sawyer attributed the low cost of Maine insurance to Maine drivers navigating mostly rural roads. Tight restrictions on young drivers and a graduated licensing program for learning drivers are also factors, Sawyer told the insurance quote provider.
