TechPlace biotech firm now taking U.S. orders

Swiss biotech company InSphero AG, a supplier of 3D microtissues for drug testing, said it started taking and processing orders with North American customers on Feb. 1 through its U.S. subsidiary at Brunswick Landing’s TechPlace incubator.
Stewart Hunt, the general manager of the Brunswick company, said the transition will simplify order fulfillment for customers in the company’s largest market, because buyers can now place orders directly with the U.S. company instead of in Switzerland.
The U.S. group also said it achieved another milestone with 11 employees hired over the past year.
“We’ve moved quickly, adding key scientific staff to lead the laboratory build-out, technology transfer and initiate product manufacturing in our state-of-the-art Brunswick facility,” Hunt said in a statement.
TechPlace has more than 15 companies in its space, which includes offices, a machine shop and a biolab.
TechPlace is in a Foreign Trade Zone, meaning companies located there can import parts, perform some manufacturing and then export them without incurring duties. Occupants also are eligible for Pinetree Development Zone benefits. It also is in a Historically Underutilized Business Zones area, which gives companies preferential access to federal procurement opportunities.
