Teens allegedly cause $217K of damage to vacant Presque Isle eatery

Kids just being kids? Not quite, as five teenagers are now facing felony charges for causing an estimated $217,000 worth of damage to the vacant Crow’s Nest restaurant and events center in Presque Isle.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the five teenagers, who range in age from 13 to 16, have been charged with the Class C felony crimes of aggravated criminal mischief and burglary for allegedly breaking into and vandalizing the 12,000-square-foot building.

According to the BDN, the punishment for a Class C crime is up to five years in prison and, at most, a fine of $5,000.

“Virtually all of the glass in the interior of the building was broken, leaving the carpet throughout the building covered in shards of glass,” Dana Cassidy, who has owned the building since 2013, wrote to the BDN in an email. “The carpet is not able to be cleaned and must be replaced in its entirety. All of the fireplaces were extensively damaged. Most of the interior walls were damaged and in need of repair. All of the chandeliers were broken along with the wall sconces.”
