The price for a gallon of gas in Maine rises by a single cent

Maine’s gas prices bucked the recent stretch of unchanged prices, as the average price for a gallon of gas rose by one cent to $2.28.

In the week ending Tuesday morning, the average national price for a gallon of gas remains at the same $2.20 per gallon average reported on Nov. 1.

The $2.28 statewide average in Maine is higher than New Hampshire's $2.18, but lower than Vermont's average of $2.29.

"If there's one thing to be excited about for November it's that gas prices in the last five of them have not risen nationally. Better yet, over the same time frame, gas prices nationally have averaged a modest twelve cent decline from start to finish. And while there may be more excitement as America heads to the polls this week, it's important to dispel the myth: presidential elections do not affect gas prices," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, in a news release.
