Thos. Moser, which makes handmade American furniture in Auburn, has hired a former senior vice president at L.L.Bean as its chief revenue officer.
Brad Kauffman started his new position at Thos. Moser on Aug. 6. He spent more than 20 years at L.L.Bean and five years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he was vice president and general manager of merchandise and retail.
In his new role, Kauffman will be responsible for increasing Thos. Moser’s catalog and digital sales revenue and implementing new and improved merchandising strategies at the company’s six showrooms in Freeport, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.
“Brad comes to Moser with a long and proven track record of success, both at L.L. Bean and at the Met,” Thos. Moser President Aaron Moser said in a news release. “He possesses a deep understanding of brand development, marketing strategy, merchandising, information technology and operations.”
Kauffman was on a team that implemented L.L. Bean’s “Business Transformation Initiative,” a sizeable investment in core processes, enterprise information systems and organizational readiness. He helped launched the L.L. Bean Visa Card, now one of the industry’s most successful co-branded credit card programs and also led the effort to restore profitability to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s extensive retail division.
Kauffman said in the news release that he sees distinct similarities between his new role at Thos. Moser and his previous work at L.L. Bean and the Met.
“All of my former employers have embodied a strong mission to their merchandising — at L.L. Bean it was the outdoor lifestyle, at the Met it was art appreciation and knowledge — this is one of the reasons that Moser is so attractive to me,” he said.
Kauffman received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University and graduated from Harvard Law School. He and his wife Joan Adler (principal of the Yarmouth Middle School) are residents of Cumberland.
Aaron Moser said the company’s strong new leadership team gives him the ability to focus on external partnerships with residential customers and businesses, such as a newly won contract with the New York Public Library, and a number of colleges, universities and corporate entities across America that have chosen to furnish their institutions with Thos. Moser.
Thos. Moser was established in 1972 as a community of craftsmen who could make a living doing the work they loved. Today, it has 70 fine craftsmen and women who are designers and makers of functionally driven, handmade furniture of the highest quality in both materials and woodworking expertise. Each Thos. Moser piece is signed by its maker. Thos. Moser operates six retail showrooms located in Freeport, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.
