Three Dollar Dewey’s Restaurant & Ale House, a local landmark on Portland's Commercial Street that closed this summer, has a new owner.
Joe Christopher, who will reopen the pub on March 1, owns Three Rivers Whitewater in West Forks and Inn by the River at The Forks and the Sugarloaf Inn, the Portland Press Herald reported.
Renovations will include new bathrooms and floors.
“It’s going to be very similar, but it will be all new paint and floors,” Christopher told the Press Herald. “We’re not wholesale gutting the place by any means. It’s more of an update than a renovate, really.”
Three Dollar Dewey’s, which is at 241 Commercial St. in Portland, was founded in 1980 by Alan D. Eames, whose 2007 obit ran in the New York Times under the headline, “Alan D. Eames, 59, Scholar of Beers Around the World, Dies.”
