Tilson hires Adria Horn for workforce development role, looks for CFO

Adria Horn, director of Maine's Bureau of Veterans' Affairs, has been hired by Tilson to serve as its vice president of workforce development. She starts her new job on Sept. 19.
Tilson, the fast-growing Portland-based network deployment and IT professional services firm, has named Adria Horn as its vice president of workforce development. She starts on Sept. 19.
The move, announced on Wednesday, comes as Tilson looks for a chief financial officer and continues its nationwide hiring spree.
For the past three years Horn has served as director of Maine’s Bureau of Veterans’ Affairs, where she led local and national veteran outreach and legislative initiatives. Gov. Paul R. LePage said she has raised the profile of Maine’s veterans during her time with the bureau.
In her new role on Tilson’s senior management team, Horn will be responsible for implementing Tilson’s global workforce strategy by deepening Tilson’s training and career pathing, and partnering with educational institutions, industry and the military in building Tilson’s team of technical professionals, the company said in Wednesday’s announcement.
“Adria is a proven leader and respected voice in workforce development, said Tilson CEO Joshua Broder, a 2018 Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year and a decorated Army veteran. “‘I'm honored to serve with her as we continue to build our workforce to keep pace with our incredible growth.”
Broder added by email to Mainebiz on Thursday that he was pleased to see greater gender balance on Tilson’s senior management team.
“We already have a tremendously capable team of women in middle management at Tilson, and it’s important to me that we show (rather than tell) that there is no glass ceiling at Tilson in senior management,” he said.
Tilson, which has 17 offices nationwide, employs more than 450 people, about half of whom are veterans. Broder has said that Tilson’s team culture is compelling to veterans.
West Point alum
Adria Horn is a graduate of West Point and received her MBA from Northeastern University. She is currently a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, where she has led psychological operations for the Pacific Command. She has been deployed five times during her 17-year military career.
She worked for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in her Portland field office upon returning from active duty.
“I’m excited to continue to serve in a mission-driven organization building American’s information infrastructure, and to the continuity between my workforce development and wellness work at the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services to Tilson’s workforce development programs,” Horn said in Wednesday’s announcement.
In an interview with Mainebiz last year on veterans in the workforce, Horn underscored that veterans “are versatile, adaptable and highly accustomed to learning on the job, which is an immense asset to employers, especially in this tight job market."
