Time Warner buys Houlton telecom company

Time Warner Cable has purchased a Houlton-based provider of cable, Internet and digital phone services, possibly setting the stage for an even larger takeover in Aroostook County.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Time Warner disclosed its purchase of Polaris Cable in a May 1 filing with the Maine Public Utilities Commission on Friday. Polaris’ customers will be transferred to Time Warner services in the third quarter.

Polaris customers could eventually be handed over to Charter Cable, which on Monday said that it has reached a deal to buy Time Warner for $56 billion, the newspaper noted.
