Tourism boost pegged to hockey classic

Portland's selection as the host city for the 2010 American Hockey League All-Star Classic is expected to bring $1.4 million to local businesses.

This is the second time in seven years that Portland will host the January tournament and its affiliated events. According to the Portland Press Herald, city officials said a large portion of anticipated boost will aid the tourism and hospitality industries, particularly hotels and restaurants, during what's typically a slow winter period.

Portland beat bids from three other American Hockey League cities to host the event.
