Trade mission bound for Europe

Renewable energy technology will be the focus of the next trade mission of the Maine International Trade Center and Gov. John Baldacci, who are set to visit Germany and Spain this fall.

The mission will visit the cities of Madrid and Bremen, and a major European trade show, Wind Power Expo 2009, in Zaragoza, Spain, according to a statement from Baldacci, who announced the trade mission yesterday at the Energy Ocean 2009 conference at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. The mission will run from Sept. 19-26. The governor said the point of the mission is to connect quickly with European researchers and companies to get the word out that Maine is open for renewable energy investment.

Both Germany and Spain are considered European leaders in wind energy projects, ranking first and third respectively in installed capacity, according to the release.
