Turner's Nezinscot Guild closes

The nonprofit Nezinscot Guild, in Turner, has closed after more than 34 years employing people with disabilities.

The Sun Journal reported the nonprofit employed 35 people at the time of its closure in April, which came amid financial challenges it couldn't meet.

Executive Director Dan O'Shea told the paper that the nonprofit lost around $180,000 in funding from the state and was not able to make up the shortfall in contracted manufacturing work. As a result, the nonprofit made cuts.

To stay open at those reduced levels, the nonprofit would have needed another $50,000 to $80,000 a year, O'Shea told the paper. He said he plans to sell off the company's machinery and remaining inventory in the next few weeks.
