Two Fat Cats Bakery, which opened in Portland’s East End 15 years ago and added a South Portland location in 2018, is moving out of its original shop this spring.
The bakery will relocate from 47 India St. to 195 Lancaster St., in the Portland neighborhood of West Bayside, owner Stacy Begin said recently in a Facebook video. The 3,000-square-foot space, formerly site of the nonprofit Big Brothers Big Sisters, is larger than her current Portland digs.
“It’s too small for us,” she said, “and it’s high time we move so we can give our employees and our customers the bakery [they] deserve.”
The one-story brick building offers other pluses too: onsite parking, room for seating, and air conditioning.
“Air conditioning!” Begin exclaimed in the video. “I cannot tell you how exciting that is to us.”
Two Fat Cats is working with Barrett Made designers to build out the space with an open-bakery plan, according to Portland Food Map.
Two Fat Cats was founded in 2005 by Dana Street, Alison Pray, Matt James and Kristen DuShane. Begin and Matthew Holbrook bought the bakery in 2012.
The South Portland location is at 740 Broadway.
