Mainers looking to show off their carnival game skills or devour some corn dogs will have plenty of opportunity to do so this weekend, as two agricultural fairs will be held between tomorrow and Sunday, Aug. 7.
After pandemic pauses, two of the state's ag fairs are making a return this week.
A demolition derby will be held at the Bangor State Fair, as well as a mini-tractor pull. That’s in addition to the usual flurry of amusement rides — including a Ferris wheel, a Gravitron and a merry-go-round — midway games and carnival food stands.
Further north, at the Northern Maine Fair in Presque Isle, a slate of agricultural exhibits, learning sessions, demolition derby and a tractor pull will also be among the major attractions. Live musical performers will be on stage at both fairs all weekend.
This weekend’s festivals are two of the state’s 24 licensed agricultural fairs, according to the Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs. Although a few agricultural fairs have already been held this summer, the bulk of them occur between August and early October.
Representatives from both festivals did not immediately return emails requesting more information.
In 2020, concern in the early days of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic led many fair organizers across the state to cancel their festivities.
