Two nonprofits appoint new leaders

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay has named William Cullina its new executive director, while in Augusta a new chief executive has been named to lead the Maine Women's Policy Center and the Maine Women's Lobby.

Cullina, currently the gardens' director of horticulture and plant curator, has served as acting director since Maureen Heffernan left the job in August, according to the Portland Press Herald. Heffernan took a job at a garden in Oklahoma. Cullina was unanimously appointed by the board of directors last week, and will lead the nonprofit, which opened in 2007 and features 250 acres of gardens.

Meanwhile Eliza Townsend, a former state representative, began work this week at the Maine Women's Lobby and the Maine Women's Policy Center, according to the Kennebec Journal. Townsend was most recently commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation.
