Two weights and measures companies strike a big deal, however you size it up

Maine Scale LLC, which sells and calibrates weight-measuring devices for industries from trucking to cannabis, has acquired MaineCal Inc., a calibration service and laboratory equipment repair company.

The deal was completed Jan. 1, according to a news release. Terms were not disclosed.

The addition of MaineCal, in Harrison, will expand the service offerings of Maine Scale, the Auburn-based company said. MaineCal services digital and mercury thermometers, autoclaves, calipers and other laboratory equipment throughout New England.

Together, the companies said in the release, they represent Maine's largest scale sales and services business, with combined experience in the industry of over 60 years.

Maine Scale was started from the purchase of Avery Weigh-Tronix's Portland location in 2013. That business had been part of Sebago Scales until 2007.

Today, Maine Scale serves Maine’s construction, agriculture, forestry, waste and manufacturing industries, and has customers from Fort Kent to Machias to Jackman. The company has a branch office in Concord, N.H.
