Unemployment hovers around 7%

Maine's unemployment rate inched down slightly in November to 7.3%, marking four consecutive months of decline.
November's rate is less than 7.4% in October and 8.1% in November 2009, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Labor. The number of unemployed people was 50,800, a 6,200 decrease from one year ago. There were 592,700 nonfarm payroll jobs last month, a decrease of 400 during the month but an increase of 4,800 from the same month last year.
The number of jobs has fluctuated slightly during 2010 and still remains close to the year-end 2009 figure.
