United Way of Mid-Maine’s president and CEO, Elizabeth Barron, has resigned her position after five years with the human services nonprofit.
Barron told Mainebiz Thursday she has stepped down to become director of development at the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville. She'll begin her new role in mid-November.
While at United Way, Barron led a strategic planning overhaul, developed events that collected over 10,000 pounds of food for Mainers dealing with hunger, and worked to expand the number of people served through funded programs and initiatives to 45,000 last year.
“Elizabeth has been a strong advocate and champion of the 56 communities served by United Way of Mid-Maine for many years, we are sad to see her go, but extremely grateful for her dedication to our community,” the nonprofit's board chair, James Wood, said in a news release.
The board has begun a search for Barron’s replacement.
“I believe strongly in the mission of United Way, and have great confidence in the strategic vision of the board of directors of United Way of Mid-Maine,” Barron said in an email to Mainebiz. “The board of directors is moving forward with a strong vision and solid plan for the transition of leadership.”
United Way of Mid-Maine, headquartered in Waterville, works to improve the health, education and financial stability of people in Somerset, northern Kennebec and western Waldo counties.
