The Saco Center of the University of Maine at Augusta has opened its new location in Saco just in time for the spring semester.
The UMA Saco Center is one of seven centers around Maine where people can take UMA courses, pursue degrees from UMA and receive all the support they need to earn a degree close to home and on schedules that fit into their family and work lives.
The new facility, located at 209 Main St., will continue to offer all the same services and support for students and partners. It was previously located at 4 Scammon St., near the Shaw's supermarket.
“UMA has been part of the greater Biddeford/Saco community for over 40 years, and we are excited to be part of Saco’s vibrant downtown now,” said Dan Philbrick, the Saco Center director.
It will help address the needs of students now accessing higher education, including a computer lab, three onsite classrooms, office space and a break area. One of the three classrooms will also serve as a public meeting room.
The UMA Saco Center serves about 350 students per semester. It offers programs in mental health services, business administration, computer information systems, the justice field and more.
