Four of five state bond measures, including a $100 million transportation project bond, received decisive voter support Tuesday. A fifth borrowing proposal, for a project at the Maine Maritime Academy, passed by a narrow margin.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the transportation bond, Question 3, passed with nearly 70% support. In early morning tallies, 60% of voters also approved Question 2, to borrow $15.5 million for improvements to the University of Maine System.
Question 1, a proposal to borrow around $14 million for maintenance and repair to Maine Army National Guard facilities passed with 58% of the vote.
Question 5, allowing the state to borrow $15.5 million for upgrades in the Maine Community College System, passed with 64% of the vote.
Question 4, to approve $4.5 million for a new science facility at the Maine Maritime Academy, was the most hotly contested and passed with just 51% of the vote, according to preliminary tallies.
